Drinks & Juicing
Blood orange mimosa
A magenta glassful to celebrate blood orange season. As the dates cross over, it is also a great choice as a valentine’s day tipple, especially if you use some rosé fizz to deepen the blush colour. It isn’t a far cry from a Buck’s Fizz but has a slightly more even ratio of booze to juice. You can decide if you view it as fruit juice with added alcohol, or vice versa.
Ingredients
- 8 blood oranges, approx.
- 1 bottle of prosecco or champagne, ideally rosé - chilled
- Some fresh mint or rosemary to garnish
Method
-
Step 1
Thinly slice one of the oranges as a garnish. Pull some long thin strips of peel from one of the others before juicing them all. You can do this a day ahead and keep it in the fridge, but it is best done as fresh as possible. Either way, chill the juice in the fridge for at least an hour.

Step 2
To serve, half fill the glasses with blood orange juice and top them up with fizz. Give them a gentle stir to blend. Garnish with a slice of blood orange, curl of peel and a small sprig of rosemary or mint.
