Cauliflower Grown by Cathy and Gordon Case at Bigbury-on-Sea, Devon

£3.90 / x1

About

Mass-grown cauliflower is pushed on with artificial fertiliser, for rapid development but mushy florets. Our organic cauliflower is different: grown slowly and naturally, on mineral-rich soil. The result is smaller, firmer caulis with exceptional nutty flavour and crunch. For zero food waste, you can eat the leaves, too - they're tender and sweet.

UK Seasonality

Cauliflowers are easiest to grow in the late summer and autumn, but they thrive in the UK's damp maritime climate and can be grown throughout most of the year.

How to prepare

Veg up your diet with cauliflower rice or used as a low-carb topping for cottage pie. Or go for full-on comfort with cauliflower cheese – to make it a full meal we like throwing in a good dollop of mustard, a bit of smoked fish, bacon or chopped hard-boiled eggs (usually not all at the same time!).

Storage

Keep in the fridge – they can last up to a fortnight.

Grown by Cathy and Gordon Case, Bigbury-on-Sea, Devon

Cathy and her husband Gordon are members of our local co-operative, the South Devon Organic Producers. Their mild coastal farm, Lower Willings Farm, is settled over the peaks above the village of Bigbury-on-Sea. Cathy and Gordon grow kohlrabi, cabbages, purple sprouting broccoli and more for our veg boxes – but most of all, we rely on their firm, nutty cauliflowers.
