When he turned eighteen, José started taking the figs to the local markets in Lleida (the city closest to the farm, and capital of the province of the same name). Back then, the fruits were sold at night, while the air was cool.
After more than forty years of growing, picking, and of course eating the freshest figs, José is a real expert. Having sampled lots of different varieties over the years, he has carefully chosen his very favourites to cultivate. For us, he grows a range of outstandingly sweet, flavoursome white and black varieties, including the traditional Catalan variety Cuello de Dama: prized for its intense flavour with sweet, honeyed notes. They’re a treat we look forward to all year.
